Not just a door

Not just a door

Here a country manor house of significant size had a  back door giving straight onto the kitchen which was used as the main day to day entrance to the house. This route let in mud and gravel from the yard and did not enhance the home.

Meanwhile the formal entrance, accessed beyond the back door was seldom used. The separate outdoor store to the right of the old back door was used to create a new front door-cum- through-route to resolve the  matter of access. The solution also gave the manor house a scale of entrance befitting the property, with a crisp modern feel and an additional source of light.

By creating this modest link between the house and the old store room,  clients were able to have a new additional down stairs shower room and utility space and an improved lobby entrance hall – enclosed, warm and water tight in comparison to the former arrangement. The link – glazed to the inner aspect neatly captures space to
form an inner courtyard.
